A number of different tasks are carried out in the kitchen so why not use mats and rugs to define the space for each of those tasks?
Consider This Multi-Rug Kitchen Layout
For a typical kitchen layout we are going to use 3 rugs, all different sizes. You’ll want your largest rug under the table. The shape of your table should dictate the shape of your rug. A round table gets a round rug, a rectangular table gets a rectangular rug, etc.
Let’s put a rug in the entrance of the kitchen as well. A rectangular or square rug will work best here. You’ll want a mat that will sit right on the line between the kitchen and the adjoining room. The straight edges of squares and rectangles will define the transition from room to room very nicely.
Put a third rug in front the sink or in front of the stove. I have both actually, a half circle in front of each. If you have any other interesting features in your kitchen such as a bay window or breakfast bar, consider inexpensive kitchen rugs for those areas too.
Where To Put Your Best Rugs
Your best rug should not be covered by furniture so use your best rugs to highlight interesting features of your kitchen like the aforementioned bay window or breakfast bar. Use them to highlight areas of your kitchen where you want to create a focal point and to bring a bit more visual interest.
Not every kitchen remodeling idea has to involve cutting down walls or replacing countertops. Some of the best affordable home remodeling ideas come from inexpensive accessories like kitchen floor mats and rugs.
